If you were listening to live stream coverage of the 2015 Main Event earlier today, you may have heard a major announcement from Global Poker Index CEO Alexandre Dreyfus, who confirmed that the #1 ranked poker player in the world, Ole Schemion, has accepted the invitation to represent Team Germany at the Global Poker Masters.
What was an already impressive German becomes almost unbeatable with the addition of a second World #1 in Schemion – Marvin Rettenmaier (GPI#22) is also a former World #1. The 22-year-old has taken the live tournament circuit by storm the past few years. Earlier this month, Schemion was awarded with his second straight GPI European Poker Player of the Year title, out duelling Belgian pro Davidi Kitai (GPI#2) in his final tournament of 2014.
Schemion took over from Dan Smith (GPI#5) at the top of the Global Poker Index late in December. It is not the first time that the young German has been ranked #1, he has spent some considerable amount of time at the very top since the beginning of the 2014 season.
